I have just read the article that Trudie shared on ESL students and educating them through school. I found the article to be very useful and interesting. This article reminds me back when I was on my last PRAC and I was allocated to a low-socio economic school that had a large amount of students who didn’t speak English. I remembered having troubles catering for a particular ESL student when planning my lessons and my mentor teacher suggested the exact same thing that was mentioned in this article. Which was to take advantage of ICTs, she said “Think of all the possibilities that ICTs can do! Think about the pictures and the sounds!”I remember the next day producing a great lesson that engaged that ESL student. I felt so happy that I was able to teach him something. Thank you for sharing Trudie!
Oh the relief of finishing my last assignment for this semester. I am in need for a much deserved holiday. Looking back over this course I am very pleased in what I have produced. Even though there were many ups and downs regarding this course I have thoroughly enjoyed it. This course has taught me so much in regards to integrating technology successfully into lessons. Although I could not put or my knowledge that I have learnt throughout this course on my professional experience I cannot wait for the time where I can put this knowledge to use.
I have come across the video that Gemma posted on her blog called the “Top 10 Reasons to Use Technology in Education: iPad, Tablet, Computer, Listening Centers”. I looked at the title and I started thinking to myself that the title sounds really familiar, so I clicked on the link and I realised why the title sounded familiar. I actually used the exact same video in my Assignment One! I really enjoyed this video and I found this video to be a great as it explains the benefits of ICTs in the classroom! Thank you for sharing Gemma!
I have just finished watching the video that Gemma posted on her blog called “Know you students”. I truly believe everything that was established in this video and even the title says it all. I believe that it is very important to have a strong relationship with your students because if you consider how much time you will be spending together it is definitely worth it to establish that strong relationship. One of the teachers on the video mentioned that “You can’t even get through a lesson if you don’t have good relationships developed” with your students. I absolutely agree with this statement because if students do not have the respect for you or via versa, there is no way you will be able to get through what you have planned for the lesson.
I have just watched the video that Kelly posted on her blog about seven reasons why to become a teacher, and I just have to say that this video sums it all up. These are the definite reasons why I want to become a teacher. I love the thought of inspiring and teaching younger generations everyday! All the hard work I have been through will definitely be worth it at the end. Just like Kelly said in her blog post “There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and we will reach it!” Nicely said Kelly!
Thank you very much Kerry for sharing these websites. I can’t wait to sit down and have a good look at both of these websites. I think they will be great when I go on PRAC! The Skwirk Online Education looks very familiar, I’m pretty sure a child I use to babysit used it at her school. I just remember her having so much fun in creating her character and telling me that she had to change her character’s look every couple of weeks. Which I found pretty funny! I like the idea that students can access this website from home. Thank you again Kerry!
